Valerie Wilms (born January 22, 1954 in Hanover ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

Valerie Wilms studied mechanical engineering in Hanover from 1972 to 1977 and graduated with a degree in engineering. In 1981 she became a Dr.-Ing. At the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg, now the Helmut Schmidt University . PhD. She worked in construction until 1983 and then moved to BG BAHNEN as a technical supervisory officer.

From 2004 she took on a teaching position at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences and from 2006 she also worked as a freelance engineer. In 2005 she joined the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party, for which she was elected city council member in Wedel and a member of the Pinneberger district assembly in 2008.

In the 2009 Bundestag election she was a direct Green candidate in the Pinneberg constituency and entered the 17th German Bundestag via Bündnis90 / Die Grünen-Landesliste Schleswig-Holstein, on which she took third place . From 2009 to 2013 she was a member and chairwoman of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Sustainable Development, spokeswoman for rail policy and deputy member of the Committee for Transport, Building and Urban Development.

In the 2013 federal election , she again entered the 18th German Bundestag . There she was a member and chairwoman of the Committee for Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Sustainable Development. Four years later, she was initially elected as a direct candidate for the 2017 federal election in the Pinneberg district ; a renewed candidacy on the state list failed. Thereupon she also announced her resignation from the direct candidacy.

In the Bundestag she was the pioneer of a new federal highway company. Above all, this should resolve the fragmented responsibilities between the federal and state governments. In 2017 the company was decided to become an IGA, along with a federal highway authority.

In the summer of 2017, she was accepted again as a civil member by the B'90 / Greens parliamentary group in the Pinneberger district assembly, where she chaired the environmental committee until the local elections in May 2018. Since then, she has been a deputy civil member of the district committee for finance and a member of the supervisory board of the waste disposal company GAB GmbH.

Wilms was chairwoman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Lübeck GmbH from 2014 to 2018 .
