The Pyrenees Valley Vall de Núria ('Valley of Núria'), in the north of Catalonia , near the border with France , is an important place of pilgrimage and a popular excursion destination that offers a variety of skiing and hiking opportunities.

The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Núria ("Pilgrimage Church of Our Lady of Núria"), a Marian shrine, is located at an altitude of 1,967 meters . There is also the hermit chapel of Sant Gil ( Sankt Gogidius ) in the valley , a hotel, a small hydroelectric power station , a few lifts and a reservoir that supplies the water for the snowmaking systems in winter . The Alberg Pic de l'Àliga youth hostel is located above the reservoir .
Directions
The mountain valley is car-free . A cog railway (the Cremallera de Núria ) runs in 40 minutes from the valley town of Ribes de Freser (connection from the regional train Barcelona – Latour-de-Carol ) via Queralbs (parking lot) into the high valley.
Summer offer
Offers around the sanctuary: walking paths, rowing boats for hire , picnic areas, sunbathing lawn, children's amusement park with giant slide, horse and pony riding. The extensive and almost tree-free area around the sanctuary offers numerous hiking opportunities away from the hustle and bustle, all of which are well signposted. From the ridges and almost 3000 m high peaks you have a magnificent view of the French and Spanish Eastern Pyrenees. Individual mountain bike tours are also signposted.
Winter offer
The ski area in Vall de Núria comprises 4 lifts (1 gondola lift , 1 chair lift and 2 button lifts ), which open up a total of 10 ski slopes of all levels of difficulty. Ski equipment can be rented on site; ski instructors are also available. At the sanctuary there is also a toboggan run, a toboggan area for toddlers and a paid “snow park” for 3 to 10 year old children. Snowshoes can be borrowed; guided snowshoe hikes are also offered.
Accesses
- From Queralbs ( Cremallera de Núria station , 1,236 m) via the historic Camí Vell ('Old Way'): 3.5 hours on foot
- From Queralbs over the Pont de Daió bridge (parking lot, 1,200 m), the Refugi de Coma de Vaca (1,995 m) and the spectacular Camí dels Enginyers : 7 hours on foot
- From Err (France, 1,300 m, the Petit Train Jaune stop ) via the Camí de Núria (yellow marking) and the Coll de Finestrelles saddle (2,604 m): 7 hours on foot
