Van der Valk is a British television crime series from 1972 to 1977 and again in 1991/1992 with Barry Foster in the role of Piet van der Valk. Since 2020 another film series has been broadcasted under the title Inspector Van der Valk , in which Marc Warren can be seen in the title role.
action
Commissioner Piet Van der Valk lives and works in Amsterdam. Here he has to solve various criminal cases. His wife Arlette and his assistant Kroon are reliable allies in all investigations.
background
Like the series Kommissar Van der Valk created from 2019, the series is freely based on the Van der Valk crime novels by Nicolas Freeling . However, the television series with Barry Foster in the title role of the Dutch commissioner does not follow the storylines of the novels, nor does it do justice to the character Van der Valks described in the books.
The series ran from 1976 on television in the GDR and from 1979 on ZDF , where it was more successful on GDR television.
The theme song of the series is also very well known: Eye Level , played by the Simon Park Orchestra , was even a number one hit in Great Britain in 1973 . It is said to be borrowed from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro .
