Vegetative characteristics
Vancouveria hexandra is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 20 to 40 centimeters.
The leaves are composed of three leaflets.
Generative characteristics
It got its English trivial name "Inside-out flower" because of the small, graceful white flowers with sepals similar to petals , which are bent back abruptly and so turn their inside outwards.
Occurrence
Vancouveria hexandra occurs in the western USA in western Washington and Oregon as well as in northwestern California .
Vancouveria hexandra often grows in the understory of moist, shady Douglas fir forests. It usually grows in dense stands.
Taxonomy
It was first published by William Jackson Hooker . The new combination to Vancouveria hexandra (Hook.) C. Morren & Decne. was published by Charles François Antoine Morren and Joseph Decaisne .
