The leaves are arranged in a rosette and are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The leaf blade consists of round, flat-lobed leaflets.

Generative characteristics

The flowering time in North America extends in spring from May to June. On a long, upright inflorescence stem with hairy, shiny branches, the pendulous flowers are arranged in a racemose inflorescence .

The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry . The six inner sepals appear like petals . The light yellow sepals up to 1 centimeter long and bent back or up and stand out from the center of the flower. The actual, smaller petals, which are light yellow, curved and hat-like, are attached to the sepals. There are six stamens . The relatively large ovary is shiny.

The fruits ripen in North America from spring to summer in June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2 n = 12.

Occurrence

Vancouveria chrysantha occurs in the western United States from northwestern California and to southwestern Oregon . It thrives in open evergreen mixed forests and in thickets on soils that form over serpentine rock at altitudes of 100 to 1500 meters. It thrives in the Klamath Mountains below 1500 meters and grows in dry mountain regions in forests and in the chaparral .
