Varastati Vana Toomas (in German The Old Thomas Was Stolen ) is the title of an Estonian music film from 1970.

action

The Estonian capital Tallinn on a mild summer night. A young couple in love (Rein Aedma, Ülle Koni) strolls through the romantic streets of the old town . On the tower of the medieval town hall , old Thomas , a town servant from the 16th century , has been keeping watch on the weather vane for centuries. On the town hall square, the lovers are suddenly harassed by a motorcycle gang. Old Thomas angrily climbs down from the tower and drives away the troublemakers.

Together with the couple, he goes on a walk through old and new Tallinn. Again and again the group meets popular musicians and dancers from Estonia of the 1970s ... Modern light music is not quite to the liking of the likable owl's taste. However, he soon finds interest in the pretty dancer Maria in the costume of his time (Marju Kuut), who reminds him of a lady of the heart who has long since passed away.

The disappearance of the legendary city guard does not remain hidden from the educated citizens of Tallinn for long. Two coin collectors (Endel Pärn, Hardi Tiidus) go in search of him. Again and again they lose sight of the town servant ...

The train with Old Thomas finally arrives at the Tallinn Singers' Stage. There the old Thomas realizes that his real place is as for centuries as a guard on the tower of the Tallinn City Hall.

production

The color film premiered in Tallinn on February 15, 1971. A year later it was shown for the first time in Moscow .
