Eduardo Moreira Fernandes (born August 21, 1977 in Praia ), better known as Vargas Fernandes , is a former Cape Verdean football player .
Club career
Vargas Fernandes began his career in his hometown with Sporting Clube da Praia , today's Cape Verdean record champions. In 2000 he moved to Gil Vicente FC in the Portuguese SuperLiga . Then the midfielder was under contract for various lower class clubs in Portugal, most recently in 2004/05 for FC Alverca in the Liga de Honra . With this club Vargas Fernandes achieved although relegation in the second Portuguese division, but no further license was granted due to financial difficulties. He left the club and played for half a year at the Finnish second division team Tampereen Peli-Pojat-70 before returning to Portugal. Again he did not stay with any club for more than a year. Vargas Fernandes played for Moreirense FC , Portimonense SC , Gondomar SC and UD Oliveirense in the second Portuguese division. In 2009 the midfielder moved to the Azerbaijani club Standard Sumqayıt , who was coached by Valdas Ivanauskas at the beginning of the season . At the end of the season, the club was eleventh and relegated to the second division. Vargas then moved back to his home country and played again at Sporting Clube da Praia. He ended his career in 2015.
