Vatteluttu alphabet

The Vatteluttu alphabet , also called Vattezhutthu alphabet ( Tamil வட்டெழுத்து vaṭṭeḻuttu; Malayalam വട്ടെഴുത്ത് vaṭṭeḻuttŭ), is a writing system from Abugida origin of the ancient Tamil population of southern India .

history

The Vatteluttu alphabet was in use from the 6th to the 14th centuries. Developed from the Tamil Brahmi , Vatteluttu is one of the five (excluding Grantha ) or six most important alphabets developed by the Tamils, along with the modern Grantha script , which is derived from the Pallava script , and the de facto Tamil script were to write the Tamil language (excluding Grantha ).
