Vedat Dalokay
Vedat Dalokay (born November 10, 1927 in Elazığ ; † March 21, 1991 in Kırıkkale ) was a Turkish politician and architect. From 1973 to 1977 he was mayor of the Turkish capital Ankara and a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Dalokay's best-known buildings are Islamic sacred buildings, such as the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad , designed in the 1970s and opened in 1984 , which is considered one of the most modern and largest mosques in the world, and the later abandoned first plan for the Kocatepe Mosque , the largest Ankara mosque.
His story, influenced by his own childhood, Sister Schako and Kolo, the goat: a childhood in Turkey was translated into German in 1998 and received a positive response from the critics.
He was buried in the Cebeci Municipal Cemetery in Ankara.
