action

Veer Pratap Singh is a Pindari prince and the son of the great Pindari warrior Prithvi Singh, who was known for his great battles to liberate India from British rule. Veer wants to continue his father's legacy by leading a Pindari movement against the British to free both the Rajasthan kingdom of Madhavghar and the rest of India from great colonial power. Veer receives the help of his younger brother Punya Singh in gathering an army. However, Veer encounters resistance from the King of Madhavghar, Gyanendra Singh, who sees Veer as a threat to Madhavghar and his rule and orders for Veer to be killed. Veer and Punya hide with their followers in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, while Singh forms an alliance with the British Governor of Rajasthan, James Fraser. Madhavghar will assist the British in crushing the Pindari movement and destroying Veer. To keep things high, the Pindaris abduct Singh's daughter, Princess Yashodhara, with whom Veer falls in love. The Pindaris then make a failed attempt to take Singh's palace by surprise. But Singh's spies discover the plan and thousands of Pindari warriors are slaughtered. Veer cannot take revenge on the corrupt king but knows that Punya was captured by Yashodhara's brother Gajendra when Veer rescues his brother and kills Gajendra's men, but Gajendra is killed when he is beaten by Veer and Gyanendra ends up on a sword seeks vengeance for his son. Meanwhile, Lady Angela Fraser, wife of James Fraser, begins to question her husband's actions when he assists the evil king in slaughtering members of the Pindari movement. Fraser refuses to step back from his campaign to crush the movement. After Veer promises his father to finish Singh, he proposes Yashodhara's Swayamvara. As he leads the princess away from the fortress, Gyanendra Singh sees a huge army of Pindaris surrounding his fortress. He asks the British to help him, but they refuse and make the Pindaris their ally in order to escape Madhavghar. Before the British leave a battle behind, the governor and Gyanendra Singh are killed. Veer, wounded by a shot, falls into his father's arms. Years later, Veer's son and Prithvi are revealed to be fighting a friendly battle.

production

The story was written twenty years ago by Salman Khan, who referred to it as his dream project. At the time, Khan was planning on directing the film himself, starring Sanjay Dutt. Veer is partly based on the Russian novel Taras Bulba by Nikolai Gogol. For his role as Veer, Salman Khan went on a special diet and worked out with a personal trainer. For her role as a 19th century princess, Zarine Khan gained eight kilos more.

reception

“What his [meaning is Sharma] answer to historical epics à la Jodhaa-Akbar should be, bores with a poorly thought-out story, annoys with patriotic behavior and terrifies with embarrassing staging. Sharma [...] proves to be a poorly talented blender. "
