The river Vefsna is the largest river in the Norwegian Fylke Nordland .
geography
The source river Austervefsna of Vefsna has its source in the high mountains of Børgefjell and flows in an east-west direction through the municipality of Vefsn . At Trofors in the municipality of Grane , the Austervefsna merges with the Svenningdalselva to form the actual Vefsna. 20 km north of Trofors, the Vefsna overcomes the 17 m high Laksforsen waterfall ( ⊙ ). 9 km upstream of Laksforsen is the 5 m high Fellingsforsen waterfall . After 45 kilometers the Vefsna flows into the Vefsnfjord at Mosjøen . In the lower reaches the European route 6 accompanies the river.

The Vefsna is a popular salmon fishing river . The salmon population of the Vefsna is infected with the ectoparasite Gyrodactylus salaris .
