The Velké Dářko (German Great Zdarskoteich ) is a pond in Eastern Bohemia. It is located at the southwestern foot of the Saar Mountains about eight kilometers north of the town of Žďár nad Sázavou in the area of the municipality of Polnička in a glacial valley in the Czech Republic .
geography
In the northern area the pond is surrounded by moors. East of Radostín there is a small tributary bifurcation to the Štířový potok, a tributary of the Doubrava . The Nový rybník connects to the south. This area, where the holiday resorts Velké Dářko and Nový Mlýn are located, is used for recreational purposes. The Velké Dářko is often wrongly stated as the source of the Sázava .
Radostín , Karlov , Škrdlovice , Polnička and Račín are located around the pond, which is completely surrounded by forests .
history
The artificial pond was created in 1480. On January 15, 1480, the abbot Linhart of the Saar monastery left the desert corridor Darko to the Troppauer Duke Viktorin to build a fish pond. In return, the monastery received twenty shock carp for each occasion.
The water surface is usually 171.2 ha, so the pond holds 3.37 million m³ of water. The maximum capacity is 5.15 million m³. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the southern area of the Velké Dářko and the Nový rybník became a recreational area.
