Ždírec nad Doubravou (German Zdiretz ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located eleven kilometers east of Chotěboř on the Doubrava and belongs to the Okres Havlíčkův Brod .
geography
The city is located on the right bank of the Doubrava, west of the Saar mountains . In the south are the hills of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands , to the northwest the foothills of the Iron Mountains join. In Ždírec, the state road 34 between Havlíčkův Brod and Hlinsko crosses with the 37 between Žďár nad Sázavou and Chrudim and the 345 to Habry .
Neighboring towns are Horní Studenec, Údavy, Vyhnalov and Stružinec in the north, Kohoutov in the northeast, Krucemburk in the east, Staré Ransko in the southeast, Nové Ransko and Hlína in the southwest, Sobíňov in the west, and Branišov and Podmoklany in the northwest.
history
Ždírec was first mentioned in 1399. The place was on the "via Lubetina", an old connection from Bohemia via Libice nad Doubravou to Moravia .
In 1939 there were about 800 people in Ždírec. On May 9, 1945, the place was largely destroyed in a bombardment by Soviet planes. After the end of the war, the population sank to 600, by 1965 it had grown to 1,450. In 1951, the official name Ždírec nad Doubravou was introduced to differentiate it from the nearby towns of the same name Ždírec and Ždírec . Since 1995 the community has had a coat of arms and a banner. Ždírec nad Doubravou has been a town since January 19, 2000.
