Přibyslav is located on the right bank of the Sasau in the western part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . Neighboring towns are Žižkovo Pole in the north, Malá Losenice in the northeast, Velká Losenice in the east, Sázava , Buková and Olešenka in the southeast, Česka Jablonná in the south, Šlapanov and Kněžská in the southwest and Bartoušov and Dlouhá Ves in the west.

history

Přibyslav was probably founded by Přibyslav , a brother of Jan von Polná, in the first half of the 13th century. The castle of the same name served to protect the area colonized by the Lords of Polná . The settlement below the castle was called a town as early as 1251 when it was owned by Smil Světlický von Lichtenburg . 1255–1272 the castle and town were owned by Čeněk von Ronow , 1283–1317 both belonged to Čeněk's sons Hynek and Čeněk. As early as 1257 Přibyslav was mentioned as a center for mining silver ores . In 1381 Přibyslav received town charter. Around 1400 the population consisted of three-quarters of Germans, whose share subsequently decreased continuously. During the Hussite Wars , Přibyslav belonged to Čeněk von Ronow, a follower of King Sigismund . Presumably for this reason the city was conquered in October 1424 after two days of siege by Jan Žižka , who died of the plague four days later, on October 11, in the camp south of the village of Schönfeld ( Šenfeld ). Although Přibyslav Castle was to be passed on to Duke Albrecht von Habsburg in 1431 , it was held by the Hussites until 1434 . In that year, the Přibyslav rule came to Hynek Ptáček von Pirkstein , who incorporated it into his Polish rule. In 1597 Joachim Ulrich von Neuhaus sold the Lordship of Polná-Přibyslav to Hertwig Seidlitz von Schönfeld for 119,000 shock Meissen groschen . After the battle of the White Mountain , the property of the Protestant Rudolf Seidlitz von Schönfeld was confiscated in 1622; The rule of Polná-Přibyslav initially went as a pledge to Jaroslav Borsita von Martinic , but was sold to Cardinal Dietrichstein for 115,000 guilders in 1623 . The Princes of Dietrichstein held Přibyslav until 1862. In that year, the manorial estate Polná-Přibyslav was divided, in which Přibyslav passed to Countess Clothilde Clam-Gallas .

In 1767 a fire destroyed large parts of the city. Another fire disaster occurred in 1847. In addition to agriculture, the population made a living from textile production as well as from handicrafts and trade. An agricultural machinery factory and a large dairy factory were added in the 19th century.

Attractions

Přibyslav Castle
  • The Přibyslav Castle was built in 1560 east of the ruined castle of Zacharias von Neuhaus in the Renaissance style. Under Karl Maximilian von Dietrichstein , it was converted into a four-wing baroque complex and expanded. After the fire of 1847, Franz Joseph von Dietrichstein had the main facade renewed in the classicism style. Today it houses a fire brigade museum, the so-called fire brigade movement center , which is one of the few in Europe to be certified by the CTIF .
  • The Church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1753 in the Baroque style.
  • The Gothic tower next to the church dates from 1498.
