history

The place belonging to the Premonstratensian monastery Želiv was built at the beginning of the 13th century and was first mentioned in 1226 as Lipnice . After the Lipnice Castle and a new place at its foot was founded at the beginning of the 14th century , it was called Horní Lipnice and the older place was called Dolní Lipnice .

Around 1346 Dolní Lipnice burned down. Due to its location on an important trade connection that led via Dolní Lipnice to Horní Lipnice, the market recovered very quickly. During the Hussite Wars the market rights were lost and from 1452 the place was called the village Stará Lipnice . In the 16th century the place received the new name Dolejší Město and since 1634 it has been called Dolní Město . The Thirty Years War brought another decline, in the berní rula 16 of the 26 properties were designated as desolate.

A boom began at the end of the 18th century. By 1843 the number of houses rose to 103 and the population grew to 796. In 1910 Dolní Město had the highest number of inhabitants in its history with 1,049 inhabitants. In 1921, 997 people lived in the 157 houses. After the Second World War, the place continued to grow and a new market square and a housing estate were created. In 1991 the place consisted of 254 houses.
