Vello Pähn

Vello Pähn (born May 30, 1958 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian conductor.

Life and music

Vello Pähn completed in 1981 his studies in choral conducting with Olev Oja at the State Conservatory of Tallinn ( Tallinna Riiklik Konservatoorium ) from. There he also studied orchestral conducting with Roman Matsov . In 1986 he closed the compartment at the Conservatory in Leningrad at the Latvian conductor Arvīds and Mariss Jansons from.

From 1981 to 1989 Pähn was conductor of the symphony orchestra of the Tallinn State Conservatory. He has been conducting at the Estonia National Opera in the Estonian capital since 1981, and has been its chief conductor since August 1, 2012.

Since 1988 Pähn has also directed performances abroad, including at the Paris Opera , the Teatro San Carlo in Naples , the Savonlinna Opera Festival , the Hamburg State Opera , the Latvian National Opera in Riga , the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and the State Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin . From 2003 to 2007 Pähn was the orchestra's general conductor in Kuopio, Finland .

Vello Pähn has been regularly engaged by the Hamburg Ballet since 1992 , where he has previously conducted John Neumeier's “Cinderella”, “Le Sacre du printemps”, the “Fifth Symphony by Gustav Mahler”, “Othello”, “Swan Lake” and “The Lady of the Camellias”.
