The Venetz Peak is a mountain in the East Antarctic Coats Land . It rises around 1500 m on the southeastern edge of the Bonney Bowl in the Herbert Mountains of the Shackleton Range .
It was photographed from the air in 1967 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey conducted the geodetic survey between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1971 after the Swiss engineer and glaciologist Ignaz Venetz (1788-1859), who in 1821 was the first to formulate the theory of the formerly greater extent of alpine glaciers.
