Association of Swiss Resident and Senior Physicians

The Association of Swiss Assistant and Senior Doctors ( VSAO ) is a professional association ( association ) of employed doctors, in particular assistant and senior physicians , in Switzerland , with its headquarters in Bern . It has around 20,000 members (2017/18) and consists of 16 independent regional sections. It emerged from the Association of Swiss Resident Doctors, founded in 1945 .

Intended use

He represents the professional, political and economic interests of employed doctors in Switzerland, also supports the concerns of medical students and works closely with their organization swimsa .

The VSAO is committed to:

  • good working conditions for hospital doctors,
  • good medical training,
  • a high quality, affordable health system.

The regional sections also represent the members' interests directly at the cantonal level.

The VSAO is the largest basic organization of the Association of Swiss Doctors (FMH), where it represents the concerns of its members in its committees.

Other VSAO organizations

In addition to the professional association, three partner organizations with the common name VSAO are active:

  • Mediservice VSAO-ASMAC - the association founded by VSAO in 1988 , which deals with all insurance solutions, including advice (such as for group health or daily allowance insurance) and publishes the association's magazine VSAO-Journal .
  • VSAO pension foundation , foundation established by the VSAO in 1983for occupational pensions for employed assistant and senior physicians.
  • VSAO Foundation for the self-employed , founded by the VSAO in 1986 for occupational pensions for self-employed doctors.

All four organizations are self-contained and independent, with separate memberships.
