OVID Association of the Oil Seed Processing Industry in Germany eV , until 2008 Association of German Oil Mills (VDOe) , represents the interests of the oil seed processing and oil refining companies in Germany. The association sees itself as an interface between member companies, political decision-makers, business associations, science and institutions. Until the name change on May 19, 2008, the name of the association was Verband Deutscher Oelmühlen eV (VDOe).

According to its own statements, the association is committed to sustainable agriculture and against the deforestation of rainforests in the cultivation of oil seeds.

history

On December 15, 1884, German oil millers met in Berlin and submitted a petition from the German oil mill industrialists to the Reichstag, which was directed against the tariff increases on foreign oil crops, especially rapeseed and rape, which had been requested by the agricultural sector. A petition addressed to the Federal Council in November 1898, “Request from the German oil industrialists to increase the import duty on cottonseed oil”, was signed by 122 oil mills.

At the oil mills meeting on March 23, 1900 in Berlin, the proposal to found an association of German oil mills was unanimously accepted in order to represent the common interests internally and externally. At the invitation of 19 companies, owners and representatives of 60 German oil mills gathered in a general assembly on April 19 at the Berlin Stock Exchange and founded the “Association of German Oil Mills eV (VDOe)” to protect their common interests. Against the background of new tasks and priorities in the areas of trade, environment and agricultural policy, the association decided in 2008 to rename itself. Since May 19, 2008 it has been operating under the name OVID Association of the Oil Seed Processing Industry in Germany eV and appears with a new logo and a different external presentation.
