Edgar Knoop works in the triangle of tension between art, technology and science.

In the years 1965–1980 he investigated specific phenomena in collaboration with various scientific institutes, including the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin (BAM) under Manfred Richter and the Institute for Medical Optics of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich under Herbert Schober the color space and developed from them color profiles, systematically arranged color sequences taking into account their colorimetric values and spatial effect, which continued in the 1980s to large-format tapestries of the series Hommage à Isaac Newton .

His first fluorescent objects were created in the late 1970s , after he had worked out and suggested a laser network between the Olympic tower and two neighboring gasometers as part of their artistic design in 1969 in preparation for the Olympic Games in Munich .

The direct inclusion of light in the mutual dependence of light source, viewer and carrier material later led to experiments in the field of holography and, from the mid-1980s, using hologram foils to create light kinetic collages and three-dimensional objects, as a result of which two light reflection steles were set up in the town center von Seeboden, in 2008. At the same time as the light kinetic works, parts of the photographic oeuvre were created, including the series Les Pardons en Bretagne (1976), Jazzgraphics (1983), Outdoors (1984) and the photo series Objets trouvés en Maghreb (2008).

Numerous trips to the Near and Middle East as well as through the countries of North Africa led to the collages Mirages - Horizons , which were shown in several prominent exhibitions from 1998–2006 - as a reflection on intensely experienced landscapes . The new section Networks took up the early topic of color harmonies and proportions in the context of prominent harmony theorists and thus rounded off the artistic oeuvre that began in the first works in the examination of the Fibonacci series by the Italian mathematician Leonardo von Pisa (1170-1250) had made sense.

At the end of 2015, part of his work was donated to the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere .
