Südwestmetall - Association of the Metal and Electrical Industry Baden-Württemberg e. V. is the labor and socio-political interest group of the collective bargaining companies in the metal and electrical industry in Baden-Württemberg . The association supports and represents the interests of the members in the sphere of influence. Südwestmetall is part of a network of German employers' associations , the socio-political interest group for entrepreneurs and a member of Gesamtmetall , the umbrella organization for the metal and electrical industry.

Organization and activity

The association supports its more than 900 member companies in dealing with trade unions and works councils , in structuring company working relationships and in representing them before the labor and social courts. There are 13 district groups in the association area.

The chairman until September 2006 was Otmar Zwiebelhofer , who became known beyond the regional borders when he graduated in 2004 from Pforzheim . In June 2006, Zwiebelhofer announced the withdrawal from the top of the association. On September 5, 2006 the entrepreneur Jan Stefan Roell was elected chairman of the association's board. He was already the negotiator in the long-term negotiations on the collective wage agreement (ERA-TV), first concluded in Baden-Württemberg in 2003 , which brought about a fundamental reform of the collective wage systems. From July 15, 2009 to September 2012, the Heidelberg entrepreneur Rainer Dulger acted as chairman of the association. The new chairman of Südwestmetall is Stefan Wolf. In this function, he succeeds his predecessor, who made his office available after his election as President of the umbrella association Gesamtmetall .

Since 1998 the Association for Education and Qualification has been involved in the educational biography with the initiative “Südwestmetall macht Bildung” to qualify young people for an apprenticeship in the metal or electronics sector.

In June 2008 the association came under fire after sending a questionnaire to the trainees of the companies organized in the association. In this questionnaire, questions were asked about visits to churches and mosques or drug use, as well as questions about the parents' financial situation, their level of education and media use. The association contradicted the allegations because the research project, the results of which should help improve the chances of disadvantaged young people and which is supported by the Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim (ZEW), among others, guaranteed absolute anonymity. The questions are also based on other studies such as the Pisa study and the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP).

The association is one of the largest legal donors in Germany and has donated more than 3 million euros to the Bundestag parties since 2002. The main part of this donation goes to the CDU . In 2013 the following parties received donations in excess of 50,000 euros: CDU 150,000 euros, FDP 80,000 euros, Alliance 90 / The Greens 60,000 euros, SPD 55,000 euros.

In 2007, the building for the regional Südwestmetall office in Heilbronn, designed by the architect and Hugo Häring award winner Dominik Dreiner from Gaggenau, received the “ Nike ” architecture prize in the “best ecological concept” category. The building was also awarded the German Façade Prize for ventilated curtain façades (VHF) in 2005.

The association is also a cooperation partner in the Junior Engineer Academy project run by the Deutsche Telekom Foundation .

Südwestmetall has been donating to political parties in the state parliament for decades, including in 2018: As in 2017, the CDU received 150,000 euros, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and FDP each received 110,000 euros and the SPD 60,000 euros.
