Otmar Zwiebelhofer (born September 5, 1935 in Baden-Baden ; † November 8, 2014 ) was a German entrepreneur . He was the sole owner and managing director of the automotive supplier König Metall GmbH & Co. KG, located in Gaggenau in Central Baden . From 2000 to 2006 he was chairman of the executive board of the employers' association Südwestmetall and until 2007 vice-president of the umbrella association Gesamtmetall . As a negotiator tariff -Pilotabschlüssen for the metal and electrical industry reached Zwiebelhofer great notoriety.

Life

Zwiebelhofer studied like his uncle Josef König jun. at the University of Mannheim and completed his studies in economics in 1957 with a degree in business administration. He completed a traineeship in toolmaking and sheet metal processing and joined the family company König Metall, founded in 1901, as an assistant to the management. In 1962 he received his doctorate on the subject of the optimal production process , before becoming managing director in 1964 and sole owner of König Metall in 1972.

From 1987, Zwiebelhofer held top positions in employers' associations. The pilot deals for the metal and electrical industry, which he negotiated and concluded as a negotiator for Südwestmetall, were often associated with significant innovations in collective bargaining. These include collective bargaining agreements for flexible working hours , long-term accounts , company pension schemes and qualifications. One of his best-known degrees is the so-called Pforzheim degree , which he enforced in the collective bargaining agreement with IG Metall in February 2004. This contract gives companies the opportunity to lower the collective bargaining standards with the participation of the parties to the collective bargaining agreement, if this strengthens competitiveness and innovation, improves investment conditions or allows jobs to be kept in Germany.

During his chairmanship, the agreement on the collective wage agreement on the remuneration framework agreement (ERA-TV) fell after five years of negotiations, which created a completely new, uniform remuneration system for employees in the metal and electrical industry. The negotiator was the Ulm entrepreneur Jan Stefan Roell, who succeeded Zwiebelhofer as chairman of Südwestmetall in 2006. Onionhofer's company, König Metall, was one of the first nationwide to introduce this system in 2003.

After the conclusion of the collective bargaining agreement in 2006, in which Zwiebelhofer was again significantly involved, he announced that he would no longer stand for re-election for the chairmanship of Südwestmetall in September. After 40 years of collective bargaining policy, he wanted to withdraw from the top of the association.

Otmar Zwiebelhofer was Chairman of the University Council of the University of Music Freiburg im Breisgau and President of the Brahms Society in Baden-Baden. In his spare time he played the cello . He has appeared repeatedly as a member of the ensemble and as a soloist in the regional music scene and has participated in CD recordings. Otmar Zwiebelhofer was married to the photographer Annette Rahner and lived in Gernsbach for decades . The marriage resulted in two daughters, one of whom works in the company.

Honors

In 2006, Zwiebelhofer received the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit .

In 2014 a street in Pisarovina ( Zagreb / Croatia ) was named after him, the Ulica Dr. Otmar Zwiebelhofer . A new König Metall plant was officially opened there on October 17, 2014.
