activities

Essential contributions in kind were made through the Association of Friends of the Vienna Police - such as B .:

  • In 2004, with the help of the association, the first defibrillators were made available for emergency vehicles; in 2012/13 there were already 56 “defibres” for police stations and vehicles. The association organized the necessary financing through the acquisition of sponsors from the economy.
  • In 2009, special cameras for crime scene work worth 100,000 euros were financed in cooperation with the City of Vienna.
  • In 2010, also with the City of Vienna, 175,000 euros for an information and advice bus for the police.
  • In 2014, the association received funding from the City of Vienna amounting to 110,000 euros for modern protective equipment for police officers.
  • In 2019, through the mediation of the association, the inclusive children's traffic training area in Vienna-Liesing was equipped with children's bicycles and helmets by the sponsor ÖRAG Österreichische Realitäten Aktien-Gesellschaft.
  • Also in 2019 special judo mats for the new martial arts hall of the police sports association in Vienna-Donaustadt were financed.

All these activities are carried out in agreement with the Vienna State Police Department and - where necessary - with the Ministry of the Interior. In agreement with the Vienna State Police President, the Association of Friends of the Vienna Police also regularly provides financial means for so-called awards. Such monetary rewards for targeted information from the population have proven to be a suitable means of providing significant support to the investigation of serious violent crimes or the search for perpetrators who are difficult to identify.

The association regularly promotes the "democracy monitoring" of the social science study society. In the course of this long-term study, the trust of the population in important institutions is repeatedly ascertained. The police repeatedly emerge from the courts and other Austrian offices and authorities as the institution that enjoys the highest level of trust among the population.

For its members, sponsors and guests from the police and business community, the Association of Friends of the Vienna Police organizes annual lecture and discussion events with renowned experts on topics relevant to society and security. In consultation with the Vienna State Police President, the association also supports congresses and social gatherings that promote international exchange, the annual police ball in the Vienna City Hall and events of the Vienna Police Music.

history

The association was founded in 1973 under the name Association of Friends and Patrons of the Vienna Police . The original purpose of the association was to motivate police officers and to support police officers in need and their survivors. The first activity was to honor a police officer who saved thirteen lives and made 200 arrests. In 1980 the name was changed to the current name.

The association came into the limelight in the course of abuse of office affairs in the Viennese police in 2006 , in which it was suspected of negotiating perks with the police for sometimes dubious people from the red light and gambling milieu. In the course of the trial of the former police general Roland Horngacher , it became known that the club's treasurer Adolf Krchov, the right-hand man of several Viennese police presidents, had brought Horngacher an envelope that had come from Bawag boss Helmut Elsner . There were travelers checks in the envelope, and Krchov got one too. The Police President Peter Stiedl , who was in office at the time of the process , saw in the other activities of the association, such as B. the catering at police parties or the provision of police cars no illegal activities. After the public prosecutor's office got involved, the association's president, the former National Bank president Adolf Wala , also suggested that the association would be dissolved, but that did not happen. Investigations were carried out by the Office for Internal Affairs and the Control Office of the City of Vienna, but they did not lead to any results that could be used under criminal or administrative law.
