Verena Dirsch

Verena Maria Dirsch (born October 23, 1964 in Eichstätt ) is a German pharmacist and university professor .

Life

From 1984 to 1989 studied Dirsch at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich pharmacy . In 1990 she received her license to practice medicine. In 1993 she did her doctorate at the LMU under Hildebert Wagner . As a post-doctoral student , she then went to Columbia University in New York for two years on a grant from the DFG . There she was in Koji Nakanishi's research group . In 1995 Dirsch returned to LMU as a research assistant and worked at the Institute for Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy. In 1998 she became a research assistant to Angelika M. Vollmar in the Pharmacy Department of the LMU. Dirsch was for the subjects Pharmaceutical Biology and Pharmacology 2002 habilitation . The title of her habilitation thesis is Natural Products - Focusing on their Molecular Mechanism of Action . Afterwards she was an academic advisor and private lecturer in the Pharmacy Department at LMU until 2004 . Since October 2004 she has been professor for pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna . There she succeeded Wolfgang Kubelka . Since 2006 she has been head of the Department of Pharmacognosy at the University of Vienna. From 2008 to 2014 she was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna.

Work areas

Verena Dirsch's areas of work are mechanisms of action of natural substances on muscle cells, endothelial dysfunction , inflammation that occurs via NF-κB or NF-κB - regulated genes , as well as natural substances with the ability to induce apoptosis in tumor cells .
