Process mechanic in the metallurgical and semi-finished products industry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The process mechanic in the metallurgical and semi-finished products industry was a state-recognized training occupation under the Vocational Training Act . The current name of the apprenticeship is process technologist metal .

Duration of training and structure

The training period for process mechanics in the metallurgical and semi-finished product industry is usually three and a half years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . It is a training occupation with four disciplines :

  1. Iron and steel metallurgy,
  2. Steel forming,
  3. Non-ferrous metallurgy as well
  4. Non-ferrous metal forming.

It has been stipulated in a joint training regulation with the three-and-a-half-year training occupation foundry mechanic.

Work areas

Process mechanics in the metallurgical and semi-finished products industry control and regulate the production systems for the manufacture of iron, steel, non-ferrous or the systems for the forming of steel or non-ferrous into semi-finished and finished products in their respective field of work. For example, if you have chosen the field of iron and steel metallurgy, you are active in iron and steel production . They produce pig iron from ores and process it into steel . They carry out the tapping and deslagging of the melt and monitor the pouring of the iron and steel melts. The same applies to the specialists in the field of non-ferrous metallurgy , but here it is metal melts for non-ferrous metals that are monitored and prepared. As a specialist in steel forming, they equip machines and systems for metal forming and surface technology and ensure a smooth restart. You produce bright steel , cold profiles or steel tubes. But you can also work for suppliers. In non-ferrous metal forming, they process non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, lead or zinc into semi-finished products . H. Wires, sheets and profiles.
