Constitutional referendum in Tunisia in 2002
A constitutional referendum was held in Tunisia on May 26, 2002 .
The amendments to the constitution of the Republic of Tunisia included the abolition of the limitation of the possible terms of office of a president to 3 and increased the age limit for the incumbent president from 70 to 75 years. A second parliamentary chamber ( Chamber of Advisors ) was introduced.
The constitutional amendments were, according to official reports, adopted by 99.52% of voters, with a turnout of 95.59%. The opposition called the results a masquerade.
