Vern Leroy Bullough

Vern Leroy Bullough (born July 24, 1928 in Salt Lake City , † June 21, 2006 in Westlake Village ) was an American historian , university professor, author and sexologist .

biography

Bullough was born in Salt Lake City , Utah in 1928 . After his school education, Bullough studied at the University of Utah and received his BA in 1951. He then attended the University of Chicago, where he received his MA and in 1954 his Ph.D. managed. In 1981 he obtained his B.Sc.N. from California State University , Long Beach . Bullough was a professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) and California State University . As president, he directed the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality . He was the Dean of Natural and Social Sciences at Buffalo State College in Buffalo , New York. Bullough was a co-founder of the American Association for the History of Nursing . Bullough wrote and edited nearly 50 books and authored many chapters in other books. He also published numerous articles in various publications. Bullough was first married to Bonnie Bullough , a professor at the State University of New York, with whom he collaborated on several books and had four children. Bonnie Bullough died in 1996. Bullough's second marriage was Gwen Brewer , a retired professor of English literature at California State University.

Awards and honors

Bullough received the Alfred Kinsey Award . In 1992 Bullough received the Humanist Service Award from the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). Today Bullough is considered an eminent sexologist and historian and one of the pioneers in the research of deviant sexual behavior.
