Vernal is a place and the administrative seat of Uintah County in the US state of Utah .

According to the US Census Bureau, Vernal covers an area of 11.9 km² (4.6 mi²), including no water. The site is in the northern part of the Colorado Plateau and 7 km (4 mi) south of Steinacker Reservoir , on Hwy 191 and 40, about 20 miles west of the Dinosaur National Monument .
