Veronika Olbrich

Veronika Olbrich (born September 1, 1893 in Kostenthal ; † August 8, 1956 in Halle ) was a German teacher and party functionary of the CDU in the GDR .

Life

Olbrich was born in Upper Silesia and began working as a teacher in 1913. With the creation of the Polish Corridor as a result of the Versailles Treaty , Olbrich looked for a job and found a job in Gelsenkirchen . After the start of the war in 1939 and the occupation of Poland, Olbrich was transferred to an area on the Vistula. At the end of the war in 1945, she fled the advancing Red Army to Central Germany and began working again as a teacher in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt on November 1, 1945 . First she worked as a teacher in a primary school, then as principal, and from 1948 as a school councilor. In 1953 she took over as director of the Pestalozzischule II in Halle, a so-called auxiliary school. During her time as a school board member, Olbrich took part in teacher training, the associated exams and pioneer leader training. She was also involved in the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF), the Democratic Women's Association of Germany (DFD) and the GDR CDU. She was a member of the state board of Saxony-Anhalt , from 1950 to 1952 a member of the main board and from 1952 a member of the district board of Halle of the CDU. In addition, she represented her party as a member of the People's Chamber from 1954 . Olbrich, for the time as a CDU member who was not full-time politically active, was highly honored. She died in Halle at the age of 62 after a brief, serious illness.
