Administration building of the Württembergische Sparkasse

The administration building of the Württembergische Sparkasse in Stuttgart , Willi-Bleicher-Strasse 25, was built between 1899 and 1900 according to designs by the architects Eisenlohr & Weigle . The core of the building has been preserved.

history

In 1898, the Württembergische Landessparkasse had the opportunity to acquire the properties at Kanzleistraße 25-27 (today Willi-Bleicher-Straße) and Schellingstraße 21, where they had their main administration building built from 1899 to 1900.

To plan the new building, a commission set up specifically for this purpose traveled to Berlin , Hamburg , Altona and Bremen to inspect the bank buildings. The architects Eisenlohr & Weigle were commissioned with the construction.

The facade was clad with Hall sandstone. Neo-Gothic tracery ornaments and renaissance decor adorned the facade. The intersection was dominated by a corner tower with a bell roof. The tower was flanked by two small and two large curved gables that rose above the parapet cornice. The gable axis on Kanzleistraße had a polygonal bay window. The Württemberg coat of arms was on the top of the gable .

The building was almost completely destroyed by fire during the air raid on Stuttgart on the night of July 25th to 26th, 1944. All that remained was the construction of the safe. The building was rebuilt by 1950. After the main office of the Landessparkasse moved to a building on Kronprinzenstrasse in 1969, the old building at Willi-Bleicher-Strasse 25 was integrated into the university quarter.
