The Württembergische Landessparkasse (LASPA) is a former credit institute based in Stuttgart .

The Württembergische Landessparkasse was founded on May 12, 1818 (date of the founding deed) as a response to the famine of 1817 as Württembergische Spar-Casse on the initiative of Johann Friedrich Cotta by the Württemberg Queen Katharina as a savings bank for the entire Kingdom of Württemberg . The first head of the Sparkasse was Gottlob Heinrich Rapp . In 1900 the administration building of the Württembergische Sparkasse was built in Stuttgart .

The state of Baden-Württemberg had been the guarantor since 1952 , but the business area was limited to the area of the former state of Württemberg. LASPA had numerous branches in most of the Württemberg cities and larger communities. In a very large number of small communities there were paying agencies that worked part-time. So it was possible to do banking at the grocer, village shop or other suitable place.

On April 1, 1975, the Landessparkasse merged with the Städtische Spar- und Girokasse Stuttgart to form the Landesgirokasse Stuttgart . The Stuttgart branch network of the two formerly competing savings banks was then merged. Branch offices outside of Stuttgart were only allowed to remain in existence to a limited extent after the merger. According to the savings bank law for Baden-Württemberg at the time, the Landesgirokasse was allowed to maintain branches in the Middle Neckar region . Outside the Middle Neckar region, branches were permitted within the boundaries of the former state of Württemberg at one location in each city and each district and also in Schwäbisch Gmünd , Giengen and Leutkirch im Allgäu . All other branches outside the Middle Neckar region had to be closed. Customers were advised to transfer their bank accounts to the Württemberg regional savings banks.

The Landesgirokasse went into 1999 in the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW).
