history

An administrative court and a higher administrative court of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen were established in Meiningen in 1897 . These were converted into the Meiningen District Administrative Court in 1923 after Thuringia was founded. With a new administrative court law in October 1948, the country abolished the independence of the administrative courts, which were dissolved in the course of the administrative reorganization of the GDR in 1952. In 1990 administrative jurisdiction was resumed in the re-established state of Thuringia, initially through chambers for administrative matters of the district courts. In southern Thuringia, these were the chambers for administrative matters of the Suhl District Court with its seat in the Meiningen District Court. In December 1992 these became an independent administrative court in Meiningen.

construction

The Meiningen Administrative Court decides in the first instance as a chamber or on the basis of a special transfer by a single judge. The chamber regularly has three professional judges. Insofar as disputes are discussed orally before the Chamber, two honorary judges join the professional judges who are also independent and only subject to the law. These judges are elected in a special election procedure (§§ 19 f. VwGO). Their membership in the chambers is also determined in advance for each year by resolution of the presidium of the administrative court. If the chamber has transferred the matter to the single judge by means of a special resolution, the judge alone is called to decide the respective dispute.

Superior courts

The superordinate court is the Thuringian Higher Administrative Court in Weimar . This is followed by the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig in the course of instances .
