history

The beginnings of administrative jurisdiction in Brandenburg lie in Prussia in 1872. The National Socialists , however, eliminated this practically completely. Apart from the short existence of the Brandenburg Administrative Court in Potsdam between 1947 and 1952, there was no administrative jurisdiction in Brandenburg, as in the entire GDR, until 1989. It was not until 1993 that this was made organizationally independent by state law.

Courthouse

The court is housed in a building at number 32 Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse . About the history of the building: In the years 1868 and 1869 the "German Life, Pension and Pension Insurance Company for Potsdam" was founded, which later owned the property at Spandauer Strasse number 1 - now Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse number 32 . The operations of the insurance company went very well during the founding period, which is why it was planned to build the management building on the company's premises at Nauener Tor. The building was erected in 1886 and 1887 by the architect Heino Schmieden. By 1924 the life insurance company was badly affected by the First World War and inflation. It was incorporated into the Aachen-Munich fire insurance. After the capitulation in 1945, the Potsdam insurance administration at Spandauer Strasse number 1 was confiscated by the Soviet occupying forces and the company's headquarters were relocated to Aachen. From 1947 the building was used by the city of Potsdam as Stadthaus II. This included the offices of the tourist office, information office, news office with the press, statistics, elections, economic planning departments, the administrative library and the archive, as well as the Potsdam district directorate of the Brandenburg insurance company. In 1949 the offices of finance and taxation, as well as the ministries of finance and the state finance department were added. In 1952 the building was assigned to the judiciary and housed the district court, the public prosecutor's office and the state notary's office. In January 1977 the former insurance building was declared a monument and registered in the monument register of the city of Potsdam.
