Vespaiola or Vespaiolo is a white wine variety that is grown in the Italian province of Vicenza within the Veneto region . There it is mostly used in the wines of the Denominazione di origine controllata Breganze . The name is derived from the fact that its sweet grapes attract the wasps . The forested area in Italy is approx. 432 hectares .
The late ripening variety produces slightly fragrant, golden yellow wines with a medium alcohol content and light tannins . As a rule, the wines are blended with other grape varieties . The Maculan wine house prepares the sweet torcolato from this variety.
A white Breganze Vespaiolo is produced in the Veneto region .
