Vester Tørslev is a small village in central Jutland equidistant but south of Hobro and Mariager in Denmark . It gets its archaeological significance from the torsl stone, a bowl stone and a Bronze Age burial place. The Runestone Vester Tørslev comes from the Viking Age and is in Karnhaus the church.
The Tørslev stone
The Tørslevstenen (also called Lynghøj) is a dolmen remnant , whose approximately 3.0 m long capstone is covered with bowls . It is located southwest of the village of Vester Tørslev, in the direction of Glenstrup, near the crest on the eastern slope of a 46 m high hill. The large stone, covered with cup-shaped cavities, is the capstone of a dolmen from the Neolithic Age . The dolmen was once covered by a hill, the remains of which can still be seen. In any case, the capstone must have been exposed during the Bronze Age , when the bowls were picked or scraped off. On the upper side and the eastern side, the capstone is covered with over 150 up to 5 cm deep bowls. Most are round, many are oval, and some are arranged in parallel rows. The stone rests on three large supporting stones, the tops of which are visible. The stone on the southwest side of the small, earth-filled chamber is lower and therefore not visible.
The burial ground
The Tørslev stone has around 500 BC. BC probably also played a role in connection with the burial ground of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages , which was excavated by the Randers Museum, a little southeast of the stone. The cemetery consisted of a round stone packing nine meters in diameter, under which four cremation graves and a tree coffin were found. The scanty additions consisted of ceramic shards and the remains of a bronze needle or ring. Rituals had been performed before the cemetery was built. The area had been plowed, shards of pots had been scattered and a fire had burned.
