The VfL Schwerin was a German football club based in Schwerin , which existed from 1904 to 1938. Home of the club was the Reitbahn sports facility .
Athletic career
VfL Schwerin was founded in 1904 under the name FC Vorwärts Schwerin in 1904 . The club belonged to the Schweriner FC 03 and the FC Elite Wismar to the three founding members of the Mecklenburg Football Association (MFB) , which was established in 1904, but FC Vorwärts could not win their championship. In the period that followed, Vorwärts Schwerin renamed SC Vorwärts 04 and VfL Schwerin until 1920 .
With the dissolution of the MFB, the Mecklenburgers subsequently acted within the Lübeck-Mecklenburg football league in the championship of the North German Football Association , the final of which VfL reached twice between 1928 and 1930. Against Hannover 96 and Union 03 Altona, Schwerin was defeated in each of the qualifications and was eliminated from the North German finals.
With the Gauliga Nordmark introduced in 1933, VfL no longer operated in a higher class and merged with local rivals Schweriner FC 03 to form Schweriner SV 03 in 1938 .
