Soccer league Lübeck-Mecklenburg
The Lübeck-Mecklenburg Oberliga was a division that emerged after the so-called football revolution and was the highest division for the Lübeck (and surrounding) and Mecklenburg area. The league existed from 1929 to 1933, when the teams were included in the Gauliga Nordmark together with the clubs from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein .
history
The Eastern District League existed since 1921 (from 1923: District League Lübeck-Mecklenburg), which included the area of the NFV district Lübeck-Mecklenburg, which was formed in 1925 from the Lübeck-Mecklenburg-Schwerin district. With one exception, the Lübeck clubs dominated the league, four times the LBV-Phönix was champion and once each Schwerin 03 and VfR Lübeck . In the course of the football revolution, games had to be suspended from 1928 for almost a year and a half before six major leagues were created in northern Germany: the Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga, the Greater Hamburg Oberliga, the Nordhannover Oberliga, the Weser / Jade Oberliga, the Oberliga South Hanover / Braunschweig and the Oberliga Lübeck-Mecklenburg. The latter, however, covered exactly the same area as the previous division. Until the league reform, clubs from the Principality of Lübeck also managed to qualify for the league, the last time VfL Eutin succeeded in the 1927/28 season.
In addition, until the dissolution in 1933 there was still a selection team from Lübeck-Mecklenburg, which among other things played games against the Hungarian amateur champions SC Egyesület Budapest (3-0 defeat) and was able to defeat the selection teams of Kiel and Northern Hanover.
mode
The Oberliga Lübeck-Mecklenburg comprised eight teams. In the course of a season, each team played twice against each other team; once on your own place and once on the opponent's place. A win was rewarded with two points, a draw with one point. In the event of a tie, a play-off game was played if it was a question of participation in the North German championship or a relegation zone. In each season the teams took part in the first two places in the North German championship, the last two teams played two free places in the Lübeck-Mecklenburg Oberliga together with the district champions.
