Viña Pampa is a town in the Potosí department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Viña Pampa is the seventh largest town in the Millares canton in the Betanzos municipality in the Cornelio Saavedra province . The village is located at an altitude of 2244  m on the right, southern bank of the Río Pilcomayo at the mouth of the Río Viña Pampa.

Viña Pampa lies between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than during the year.

The annual average temperature here on the Río Pilcomayo is around 11 ° C (see Tasapampa climate diagram), the monthly values ​​fluctuate only slightly between 7 ° C in July and 12 to 13 ° C from October to March. The annual amount of precipitation is almost 500 mm, the months April to October are arid with monthly values ​​below 25 mm, only in January is a long-term average precipitation of 100 mm reached.

Transport network

Viña Pampa lies at a distance of 50 kilometers by road south of Sucre , the capital of the neighboring department of Chuquisaca .

The 900-kilometer Ruta 5 highway runs through Sucre and leads from the Bolivian lowlands via Sucre and Potosí to the Chilean border in the west. Coming from Sucre in the direction of Potosí, the road crosses the Río Pilcomayo at Viña Pampa , and after two kilometers a dirt road branches off to the right from Route 5, and after a few hundred meters you reach the village below the road on the Río Viña Pampa.

Due to the historically grown population development, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Betanzos 77 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
