Vicelinkirche (Hamburg-Sasel)
The Vicelinkirche is one of the two Evangelical Lutheran churches in the Hamburg district of Sasel . It is located in the northern part of the district directly on Saseler Markt and is the district's first own church.
Building the church
In 1948, Sasel, which had previously belonged to Bergstedt , became an independent parish that received its first church hall on the site of today's parish hall in 1949. In 1962 the architects Horst Sandtmann and Friedhelm Grundmann carried out the construction of today's church in a short time, which was inaugurated on December 2nd, 1962.
The architects used two biblical images for the construction of the Vicelinkirche. The church building resembles a tent and is intended as a reminder that every man-made house is temporary. In the area of the altar, the church structure also resembles a ship's hull and is reminiscent of Noah's Ark . The building material that dominates both outside and inside is Dutch bricks. The strict simplicity of the lines in the interior emphasizes the sanctuary in natural light.
Furnishing
The artist Lothar Quinte designed the colored lead glass windows and the hand-woven tapestry with concentric circles of color on the back wall of the altar, which characterize the church. The silver altar cross, the two high altar candlesticks and the christening candlestick are made by the sculptor Hans Kock .
All parts of the equipment are only designed with restrained colors. The white surfaces of the ceiling and the chairs, the dark floor and the light stone of the altar, baptism and lectern are dominant. Color accents are mostly found in blue and rarely in red. The blue should be interpreted as a symbol of God's presence and the color red as a symbol of God's love.
Bells
Today the church has a ringing of three bells, the mood of which corresponds to the original ringing of the prayer house church in Arnsdorf in Silesia . Konrad Feige, one of the first pastors of the congregation and who fled Silesia after the Second World War , found an intact bell from 1863 from a neighboring village of his home congregation in the Hamburg bell cemetery in 1951 . He succeeded in initially having them housed next to the community hall in a wooden bell tower. By 1962, the Bachert bell foundry in Karlsruhe had the two missing bells of the Arnsdorf chimes replenished according to old models and all three bells were hung in the new tower of the Vicelinkirche.

organ
The first organ of the church came from 1955 from the workshop of Kemper & Sohn, Lübeck .
Thanks to the great financial commitment of many parishioners, the Vicelinkirche received a new Führer organ in 1996 . The external appearance was deliberately chosen to match the design of the church. The brochure continues the harmony of the altar wall and the side window with its simple blue-red color and the silvery pipes. Your disposition is:

local community
Between 1963 and 1998 there were remarkably few changes in the pastors' staff. During this period, each of the full-time pastors remained in office for at least 15 years.
On January 1, 1998, the two previously independent parishes in Sasel, the Vicelin and Lukas churches, merged to form the "Evangelical Lutheran Parish of Sasel". This commonality is also shown in the seal that has been in effect for the community since 1998, which represents the two church buildings of the new community.
The parish hall and an attached kindergarten are located right next to the church.
