Vicky Fun Ha Tchong ( Chinese 张芬霞 ) is an East Timorese diplomat.

Career

Like many members of the Chinese minority in Timor , Tchong spent the Indonesian occupation of East Timor in exile in Australia before returning to East Timor after 17 years. Before joining the East Timor Ministry of Foreign Affairs , she worked for the East Timor Humanitarian Response Group (ETHRG), which helped refugees return to East Timor.

In 2002, Olímpio Branco , the previous Secretary General of the East Timorese Foreign Ministry, became the new Deputy Foreign Minister. From September on, he was initially replaced by an executive team that took over the post every four months on a rotation basis. This consisted of Nelson Santos , as director for bilateral relations, Vicky Tchong, administrative director and head of the consular department and Roberto Soares , director for regional affairs. On January 1, 2004, Santos was initially appointed ad interim sole general secretary; Tchong became Vice Secretary General.

Tchong later went to the East Timorese embassy in Beijing as an advisor , where Olímpio Branco was the first East Timorese ambassador to the People's Republic of China since 2005 . In 2008 she returned to East Timor and became Secretary General of the East Timorese Foreign Ministry, the highest position behind Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa . In the same year she became a member of the working group for the creation of the Comissão da Função Pública (CFP), which started its work in 2009.

On November 26, 2010, Tchong was appointed East Timorese Ambassador to the People's Republic of China , succeeding Olímpio Branco. Tchong presented her accreditation to China's President Hu Jintao on February 15, 2011. Her successor as ambassador, Bendito Freitas , was appointed on November 15, 2015 and handed over his accreditation on February 29, 2016.

Tchong is now Director General for Multilateral Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
