During a casting for background dancers for the film Girl , Polster immediately caught the attention of director Lukas Dhont and was immediately cast for the lead role of 15-year-old transgender ballerina Lara, without having had any acting ambitions beforehand. In preparation for the shoot, Polster took lessons in pointe dance . In 2018 the film premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival , where Polster was named Best Actor by the jury of the Un Certain Regard section , although he was unable to attend due to school obligations. The critics were also consistently impressed by both Polster's dancing and acting skills. Further nominations and prizes for upholstery followed.

His focus for the future dance career is on contemporary dance.
