Victorița Dumitrescu

Victorița Dumitrescu (born December 1, 1935 in Bucharest , † December 22, 2009 ) was a Romanian handball player .

biography

Victorița Dumitrescu was a member of the Romanian women's handball team for several years . With the national team, she was both in the women's field handball world championship in 1956 with a victory over host Germany and in 1960 in the Netherlands with a 10-2 victory over Austria handball world champion for women in field handball .

In 1962 she was also the women's handball world champion in indoor handball with an 8: 5 win over Denmark when Romania hosted the 2nd indoor handball world championship for women. Dumitrescu scored 30 goals in 33 international matches.

Dumitrescu suffered from hip arthrosis , diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure for many years . For her services to sport, she was awarded the Order of Meritul Sportiv First Class by President Traian Băsescu in June 2009 . Six months later she succumbed to her serious illness.
