The KMAR 808 ships are Swedish anchor- handling tugs (AHT) and icebreakers . The ability to use the ships as icebreakers sets them apart from other anchor-handling tugs.
The ships were built in 2000 and 2001 at the Norwegian shipyard Havyard Leirvik AS for the company Transviking Icebreaking & Offshore AS (today: Viking Icebreaker and Offshore AS). They are of Viking Supply Ships AB bereedert .
The ships are available for the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) as icebreakers in the Baltic Sea in the first quarter of each year. The ships, which are otherwise mainly used as anchor-handling tugs in the North Sea, but also worldwide, must be able to be relocated to the Baltic Sea within ten days. A corresponding contract runs until 2015 and can be extended for a further 15 years.

The free deck area behind the deckhouse in the front area of the ships is 603 m² (40.2 m × 15 m). It can be loaded with a total of 1350 tons , whereby the maximum deck load is 5 t / m² or 10 t / m² behind frame 23. The bollard pull of the ships is around 200 tons.
If required, the ships can be equipped with a removable helicopter platform. This can happen with a 24-hour operation of the ships, e.g. B. when used as an icebreaker may be necessary.
