Vide is a locality and former municipality in Portugal . Vide is located in the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela , the natural park of the Serra da Estrela . In 2008 the Centro de Interpretação de Arte Rupestre (CIAR) was established here, an archaeological research and visitor center for the local prehistoric excavations and rock engravings.

history

Archaeological finds prove a prehistoric settlement. In particular, the rock engravings found in summer 1998 ( Ferraduras , Carvalhinhos and Fontes do Cid ) and other finds made in summer 2002 show settlement since the Paleolithic , with a focus on the Bronze Age .

The present-day villages were probably created after the Reconquista in the 12th century. Probably in the course of the administrative reforms under King D. Manuel I at the beginning of the 16th century, Vide received city rights and became the seat of an independent district. The exact date is not known as the certificate has not been preserved. In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the Miguelistenkrieg that followed in 1834 , the Vide district was dissolved in 1836 and incorporated into the Loriga district. Vide has belonged to Seia since its dissolution in 1855.
