Vidoje Žarković (born June 10, 1927 in Nedajno , Plužine , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ; † September 29, 2000 in Belgrade , Serbia ) was a politician from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), who was among other things chairman of the Association of Communists of Montenegro and between 1985 and 1986 chairman of the Association of Communists of Yugoslavia (BdKJ). In addition, he was a representative of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro between 1974 and 1984 and a member of the Presidium of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1985 to 1986 .

Life

Žarković attended the grammar school in Pljevlja and took part in the partisan war against the occupation of Yugoslavia , the so-called "national liberation struggle of the peoples of Yugoslavia" during the Second World War from 1941 as one of the youngest members of the 1st Proletarian Brigade . During this time he also joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPJ) as a member in 1943 . After the end of the war he attended the Naval Academy and the Political Science College and joined the Navy of the Yugoslav People's Army . In the following years he took on numerous tasks in the political administration of the Navy and left active military service in 1965.

Subsequently, Žarković was secretary of the Central Committee (ZK) in the Union of Communists of Montenegro in 1965 and then on May 5, 1967 successor to Mijuško Šibalić as chairman of the Executive Council of the People's Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro. So he was Prime Minister of this republic of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SJRJ) and held this position until October 7, 1969, after which he was replaced by Žarko Bulajić . He himself had already taken over the post of President of the People's Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro from Veljko Milatović on October 6, 1969 and was therefore de facto state president of the republic until he was replaced by Budislav Šoškić on April 1, 1974.

Žarković himself became a member of the Presidium of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1974 as a representative of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro and was a member of it until 1984 when Veselin Đuranović became the representative of Montenegro in the State Presidium . During this time he was from May 15, 1976 to May 15, 1977 and again between May 15, 1983 and May 15, 1984 Vice President of the Presidium of the SFRY and thus Deputy President.

He then succeeded Dobroslav Ćulafić as chairman of the Union of Communists of Montenegro in May 1984 , but only held this post until his replacement on July 30, 1984 by Marko Orlandić . He himself became Ali Shukri's successor as chairman of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia (BdKJ) on June 25, 1985 and remained in this position until June 28, 1986, after which he was replaced by Milanko Renovica . As chairman of the BdKJ, he was again a member of the SFRY's presidium between 1985 and 1986. He was also a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the BdKJ between 1984 and 1989.

For his services he was awarded the Order of Heroes of Socialist Labor (1987) and the 1941 Partisan Memorial Medal.
