The Vigala ( Estonian Vigala jõgi ) is a river in Estonia .
The Vigala rises on the northern edge of the Kaeva moor ( municipality of Tapa ). Its length is 95 km. The city of Rapla lies on its banks . The catchment area of the river is a total of 1520 km². An ice wheel forms in winter near the village of Vana-Vigala . On the lower reaches of the river, flooding occurs frequently in spring, particularly in the village of Rumba (municipality of Lääneranna ).
The Vigala flows into the Kasari River , 24.7 km before it flows into the Baltic Sea in Matsalu Bay . It is also the most water-rich tributary of the Kasari.
The most important tributaries are the Kodila ( Kodila jõgi ) and Konuvere brooks ( Konuvere oja ) on the right bank, the Kuusiku ( Kuusiku jõgi ), Ahtama ( Ahtama oja ), Türingi ( Türingi oja ) and Velise rivers and brooks on the left bank ( Velise jõgi ).
In Konuvere ( Märjamaa municipality ) a bridge was built over the river in 1861. The 110 m long stone bridge is now part of the road connection between Tallinn and Pärnu and is an Estonian monument.
There used to be numerous watermills on the Vigala . In 1798 alone, a total of twelve mills were recorded. The second oldest watermill in Estonia was commissioned there in 1764 near Sulu (Märjamaa municipality) at Haimre Manor .
