Viktor Drouot (occasionally also written Victor Drouot ; born June 10, 1811 in Hořice na Šumavě ; † May 6, 1897 in Linz ) was an Austrian politician (Liberal Party), mayor of the Upper Austrian capital Linz, officer and printer owner.

Life

Viktor Drouot came from a French émigré family. He was born in 1811 as the son of a kk senior doctor in South Bohemia and attended the cadet school in Bruck an der Leitha . He married Josefa Feichtinger, the daughter of the Linz printer of the same name. In 1845 he joined his mother-in-law's business, which he took over after her death on November 8, 1847. In 1877 Drouot was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown and raised to the nobility. From 1878 his company was allowed to use the name kk Hofbuchdruckerei, which at that time was a special award for a book printer in the Austrian province. In 1879, Drouot, widowed in 1872 and so far childless, remarried. In 1884 he took over the publication of the Linzer Zeitung .

Since his only child from his second marriage had an accident at the age of 14, Viktor Drouot bequeathed the court book printing company to his nephew Hans Drouot, whom he had brought into his company in 1880 and entrusted with the power of attorney in 1888.

In 1850 he was elected to the newly constituted Linz City Council and in 1861 Vice Mayor of Linz. On March 31, 1867, he was elected mayor of Linz, after the three-year term of office he was re-elected on April 10, 1870. In the 1860s, Drouot was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament .

In addition to his political activities, Drouot was also director of the Allgemeine Sparkasse (1855–1888), president of the Upper Austrian Art Association , member of the Upper Austrian Museum Association, commander of the Linz National Guard and Vice President of the Upper Austrian Red Cross .
