Life
After studying medicine in Prague and Vienna and completing his doctorate in 1906, Kafka received an assistant position in 1907 at the psychiatric clinic of the German medical faculty of Charles University in Prague . In 1911, together with the bacteriologist Edmund Weil , he described a previously unknown bacteriological reaction in the Wiener clinical Wochenschrift (issue 24, fol. 335) , which was given the name Weil-Kafka reaction or hemolysin reaction . In the same year he moved to the Hamburg-Friedrichsberg Hospital . From 1917 Kafka became a member of the board of directors of the serological department of the bacteriological-serological institute. In 1920 he was appointed department director. He was a member of the Hamburg Freemason Lodge St. Georg zur Grünenden Fichte and in 1926 its master of the chair .
In 1924 he received an extraordinary professorship at the University of Hamburg and in 1927 he was appointed senior physician in the serological department. During the National Socialist era , Kafka was removed from service because of his Jewish ancestors. A stumbling block in front of the main building of the Hamburg-Eppendorf University Medical Center reminds of him. In 1939 he went into exile in Norway and finally in 1942 in Sweden , where he lived until his death.
