Viktoria Wuppertal (officially: Turn- und Sportverein Viktoria 96 Wuppertal eV ) was a sports club from Wuppertal . The first soccer team played for five years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The club was created in 1945 through the merger of TSV 1896 Barmen with VfL Viktoria 05 Barmen . Just two years later, the team reached the promotion to the Landesliga , the then highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine. The Viktoria failed, however, at TuS Radevormwald and TuS Gerresheim . After being runner-up behind Borussia Velbert in 1953 and Germania Wuppertal in 1954, in 1956 they were promoted to the regional league after a 2-1 play-off win after extra time over BV 04 Düsseldorf .

With the simultaneous introduction of the Niederrhein Association League, the Landesliga was only the second highest amateur league. The sporting upswing continued. In 1958, Viktoria became national league champions behind SC Sonnborn 07 . In 1962 and 1963 the Wuppertal team came second again, this time behind Union Ohligs and SSV Velbert . Finally, in 1965, they were promoted to the association league, where Viktoria immediately became runner-up behind VfR Neuss .

This qualified the team for the German Amateur Championship . There the Viktoria failed in the first round due to the amateurs of Hannover 96 . In the following years, the team could no longer build on these successes and had to relegate to the state league in 1970. On June 11, 1970, Viktoria merged with VfB Wuppertal , Eintracht Wuppertal and SSV Barmen to form ASV Wuppertal .
