Viljoenskroon is a city in the South African province of Free State (Free State). It is located in the municipality moqhaka local municipality in the district Fezile Dabi .
geography
In 2011 Viljoenskroon had 2,091 inhabitants (census), in the northern township of Rammulotsi there were 29,377 people. The city lies in a flat environment.
history
The place was founded in 1921 on the area of the Mahemskuil farm and named after the farmer J. J. Viljoen and his horse Kroon ("crown"). Kroonstad and the municipality of Moqhaka ( Sesotho for "crown") are named after the horse . In 1925 the place was recognized as a municipality.
Economy and Transport
The main source of income is agriculture, especially corn cultivation and cattle breeding.
Viljoenskroon is on the R76 , which connects Orkney in the northwest with Kroonstad in the south, and on the R59 , which leads from Bothaville in the southwest to Parys in the northeast.
The city is on the Orkney – Kroonstad railway line, which is operated by freight. The station, built in 1915, was called Rendezvous Station until 1927 .
