Viljoenskroon is a city in the South African province of Free State (Free State). It is located in the municipality moqhaka local municipality in the district Fezile Dabi .

geography

In 2011 Viljoenskroon had 2,091 inhabitants (census), in the northern township of Rammulotsi there were 29,377 people. The city lies in a flat environment.

history

The place was founded in 1921 on the area of ​​the Mahemskuil farm and named after the farmer J. J. Viljoen and his horse Kroon ("crown"). Kroonstad and the municipality of Moqhaka ( Sesotho for "crown") are named after the horse . In 1925 the place was recognized as a municipality.

Economy and Transport

The main source of income is agriculture, especially corn cultivation and cattle breeding.

Viljoenskroon is on the R76 , which connects Orkney in the northwest with Kroonstad in the south, and on the R59 , which leads from Bothaville in the southwest to Parys in the northeast.

The city is on the Orkney – Kroonstad railway line, which is operated by freight. The station, built in 1915, was called Rendezvous Station until 1927 .
